Eugene William "Bud" Dooley
Eugene, known to friends and family as "Bud", was born April 6, 1926 as the first of nine children to William Joseph and Mary Winifred (Sweeney) Dooley in the farming community of Ramona, South Dakota. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and served honorably in the Pacific aboard the USS Guilford.
He returned to South Dakota and married a rural school teacher, Vera Leona Kattke, on November 29, 1951. Bud worked as a contract "farm to market" hauler for the Ramona Farmer's Cooperative Creamery. He spent eight years at the Sanitary District during which he became the lead engineer, then the next six years as the director of the Pima County Department of Sanitation. In 1977, he purchased an interest in the consulting engineering firm of John S. Collins and Associates and became the majority owner upon the death of Mr. Collins. Later the firm was renamed to Dooley Jones & Associates. After retiring in 1987, Bud and Vera traveled extensively for several years.
He is survived by two brothers, two sisters, his wife, Vera, son, Philip (Cintya) Dooley of Phoenix, daughter, Sally Dooley (Ron Hopley) of Tucson and son, Scott (Terri) Dooley of Hereford, Arizona. He has six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

I had the opportunity to work with, and for, Bud going back to his days at Pima County Sanitary District. Bud was a great engineer and was hands-on with everything he did, including restoring his Mercedes. He was willing to share his wealth of knowledge with his peers to achieve many very successful development projects, along with water and wastewater projects. Donna and I consider the Dooley family great friends. Our condolences on Bud's passing.

It was my sincere pleasure to work with Bud and his leadership and guidance was very special to me. Bud will be missed by many friends and loved ones but left a very special footprint on our community and so many should be grateful for his dedicated public service to all of Pima County. Rest in peace

We were saddened to learn of Bud's recent passing. It's been many years since we have seen him, but he has always been one of our favorite people in the engineering field. My father, Frank York, husband, Patrick Laird, and myself all worked for DJA in the early 1980's. Bud was such a gracious person and boss whose care and concern for his staff was always evident. It was a terrific environment in which to work. I only worked as a sub-secretary with Cheryl & Darlene, but always enjoyed it. His contribution to the engineering community will be long remembered...as will he. Our deepest sympathy is extended to Vera, Scott and the entire Dooley family.

I have fond memories of working with Bud at Pima County and at Dooley-Jones. I even reached out to him in the last 2 years to help us with some County wastewater history. Bud was always a gentleman and would assist without hesitation. My sincere condolences to the Dooley family.
