Joan O'Connor
Sioux Falls - Joan Marie O'Connor (Hanneman) died on March 30th , 2021. Joan was born on September 8th, 1947 in Madison, SD to the parents of Ted and Eileen Hanneman.
Her school days started with attending grade school through 8th grade at Cathedral and graduating from O'Gorman High School in 1965. Joan married her high school sweetheart, Cliff, on June 8th, 1968. A few years later their family grew with the birth of Traci, Shannon and Colin.
Joan loved to work outside the home and started her banking career before children and continued until she retired in 2009 following her stroke. Joan worked at National Bank, US Bank, Marquette Bank, and First National Bank of South Dakota. Many coworkers and clients provided her with a lifetime of friendships.
Joan was always known for being a great friend with a giving heart. This came in many ways from volunteering time, to hosting events, and entertaining friends and family, which usually involved her love for cooking. Even during her time of illness, she made a point to remember family and friends' special days whether it be with a phone call or a card. One of Joan and Cliff's greatest accomplishments was being a charter member of St. Michael's Catholic parish founding in 1979.
Grateful for having shared her life with her children, Traci (Jeff) Kistler of Dell Rapids, SD and their children, Morgan and Peyton. Shannon (Darin) Terhark of Brandon, SD and their children, Gavin and Grayson. Her son, Colin (Renee) O'Connor of Fargo, ND, and their children, Caden and Ryland. Her sister, Marilyn (Mike) Whiteis of Gettysburg, SD. Her brother Rick Hanneman of Sioux Falls, SD. Her sister-in-law, Val (Chuck) Sutton of Flandreau, SD. Her brother-in-law, Rick (Cindy) of Colorado Springs, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff, her parents, Ted and Eileen Hanneman, and her brother, Tim Hanneman.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Dow Rummel Village for the care and compassion they showed Joan during her years at their facility.
The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 9th at 10:30 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 8th from 5:00-7:00 PM at St. Michael's Catholic Church with a wake service at 7:00 PM. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
