Mahlon Johnson
Mahlon Johnson, age 90, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Canton Good Samaritan Society. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30 at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8 p.m., family present 6-8 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.
Mahlon was born on November 6, 1925 on a farm near Alcester, SD to Clarence and Ruth (Eneboe) Johnson. He graduated from Alcester High School in 1943. He served in the US Army from 1951-1952. While on leave, he married Delores Roti on April 28, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD. Following his discharge, the couple moved back to the farm near Alcester where they lived and farmed until moving to Canton in 2011.
After retiring, the couple wintered in Arizona for 26 years and also spent a month in Europe. Mahlon was also a regular pool player at the Alcester City Auditorium and he was an avid New York Yankee fan.
Mahlon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Delores; sons, Gary (Janyce) Johnson, Canton, SD, Tim (Carolina) Johnson, Torrance, CA, and Wayne Johnson, New York City, NY; grandchildren, Rosa (Travis) Nordstrom, Sarah (Kristopher) Shrewsberry, and Laura (Edwin) Frerichs; 4 great-grandchildren, Theo, Isabella, Isaac, and Elijah; sister, Ardis Bergquist, Omaha, NE; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kurt; sister, Eunice Twedt; and granddaughter, Ashley.

Mahlon was sure a wonder person. Delores & him went to dance classes with my parents back in the '70's. On a couple of occasions, I had to fill in for my Dad. I can't remember what the dance was called but it went something like "one, two, three, HOP" and to this day I still have that vision of Mahlon performing that!!!
My condolences to the Family and look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.
