Rose Davidson Obituary

Rose Davidson, DVM

Memorial Services will be Saturday, July 23rd at 2:00pm. Friends of the community, members of BRHS, as well as past clients are invited to join Rose's Family at SDSU Performing Arts Center (1601 University Boulevard, Brookings, SD) to join in this celebration of her life. Rude's Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Rose Davidson, 53, passed away peacefully surrounded by family early in the morning of July 08, 2016. Rose underwent a double lung transplant in July of 2015 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, but succumbed to complications. Rose Davidson was born Rose Marie Minahan, and grew up in Mitchell, SD.

Rose enjoyed a full life, and was loved by many. Rose met her husband, Bill Davidson, while attending college in Rapid City, SD in 1981. She continued her education in Memphis, TN and graduated from Central College in Pella, IA. Following the birth of their son Lucas, Rose attended Iowa State University from which she graduated in 1993 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

After a few years of veterinary practice in Sioux Falls, SD, Rose and her family settled in Brookings, SD, where she was a principal in the newly formed Gentle Doctor Animal Hospital. Rose was very well known and loved by the community as she had such a genuine and sincere passion for the animals. She led the foundation of the Brookings Regional Humane Society at about this time.

Rose continued to provide veterinary services for the humane society following her retirement from private practice in 2006. Rose was able to participate in a full life that included achieving her 2nd degree black belt and instructor certification in ATA Taekwondo. Rose actively traveled to the various Indian reservations in the state to lead free health/spay and neuter clinics several times a year. This along with her greatest passion of building the Brookings Regional Humane Society made her truly a hero of the animals. She also had the opportunity to live in Brussels, Belgium for 2 years and travel Europe and especially Ireland extensively with her family. Rose was recognized as a National Hero of Hope when she received the Award from the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 2012.

Rose was preceded in death by sister Jeanine, brother Mike and parents Ted and Ilene. Also her beloved Welly, Shadow, Genesis, Wizard and other special pets including the thousands she cared for over the years waiting to meet her at the Rainbow Bridge.

Rose is survived by her husband Bill, son Luke, brothers Ken Minahan (Jane) and Dan Minahan (Melissa), father in law Bob Davidson, brothers in law Casey and Rob Davidson as well as many nephews, nieces and friends.

Rose was a truly special person, so kind and giving. I was honored when she asked me to do surgery along side her on the Reservation and at BRHS. She was very talented and had a big heart. Rose touched so many lives, both animal and human. I feel blessed to have known her.
