Evelyn Gors
Evelyn A. Gors was born September 20, 1936 in Centerville, SD, to parents Allan and Melvie (Danielson) Olson. She died November 20, 2016 at her home in Centerville at the age of 80 years and two months.
Evelyn graduated from Centerville High School in 1954, attended Southern State Teacher's College in Springfield, SD, and graduated from Mount Marty College in Yankton. She married Darrel Gors on February 19, 1966. They farmed in rural Centerville for several years before moving into the Centerville home where Evelyn continued to live after Darrel's passing in July of 2011.
Evelyn worked at AAA Travel in Sioux Falls before beginning her teaching career and spent the majority of her classroom years at Viborg Public School, where she taught sixth grade. She greatly enjoyed her students and co-workers and kept in touch with a number of them, even after her retirement in 1999.
Evelyn was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, worshiped at Scandia Lutheran Church for many years, and was currently associated with the Centerville United Church of Christ (UCC). She cherished the friendships she had with the ladies of UCC, and also treasured the time she spent with her dear friends, both old and new; many of whom provided great care and comfort to her in recent years.
Evelyn was a great listener and often enlivened conversation with her "spicy" sense of humor. She was especially proud of her grandson, Michael, and often referred to him as "her life." Another important part of Evelyn's life was her beloved dog, Sophie, who was her constant companion.
She is survived by her daughter, Paige (Paul) Hanson; her grandson, Michael Linngren; three step-grandchildren: Kari Hanson, Matthew Hanson, and Cassaundra (Blake) Riewer and their children, Isaac and Samuel; her sister, Dorothy Olson; a sister-in-law, Margaret (Wayne) Engstrom; two brothers-in-law, Kenwood (Pat) Gors and Gaylan (Gale) Gors; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the United Church of Christ in Centerville, SD, with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Mrs Gors was a favorite teacher of mine and she remained a beautiful person who always had a big smile and kind words for everyone she met. May she rest in peace.
