James Sunde
Madison, SD - James S Sunde, age 89, died at Madison Regional Health Center on March 20, 2016.
He was born in Lake County on March 29, 1926 to Leon and Olga (Stephenson) Sunde. He married Betty Hansen on January 31, 1947 at Madison.
He is survived by his wife - Betty of Madison, one son - Douglas (Janet) of Madison, one daughter - Kathy (Ted) Weiland of Madison, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, 5 sisters - Lois Ronning of Sioux Falls, Dorothy Downs and Marian (LaMonte) Wiese, both of Madison, Marley (Jim) Smith of San Lorenzo, CA, Midge (Jim) Kloster of Fargo, ND, sister in Law - Janet Sunde and brother in Law - Bob Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother - Dick and 1 sister - Neva.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Lake Madison Lutheran Church with Rev Philip Hofinga officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.
He grew up in Lake County, graduated from Beadle High School in 1944. He served in the US Army during WW II. After the service he returned to farm in LeRoy Township where he farmed his entire life. They moved to Madison in 1990.
He was a member of the Madison American Legion and the Madison Elks Lodge. He served on the Board of Directors for Bethel Lutheran Home and The Madison Farmers Elevator. He also served on the LeRoy Township Board.
There will be a prayer service at 7:00 PM on Wednesday at Weiland Funeral Chapel which is in charge of the arrangements.

Jim was my cousin my memories of pheasant hunting on his farm back in the 50's r some of my best childhood memories. I remember his son Doug, uncle lee and auga, midge, Rollie,Joe and carlton those were the best years ever. I'm living in ft. Mohave az close to bullhead and Laughlin
I don't hunt anymore. A. Little ocean fishing is about it.
