Lucille Hoekstra
DOON, IOWA- Lucille Hoekstra, 90, of Doon, Iowa died on Monday, December 26, 2016 at the Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley, Iowa with Rev. Matthew Haan officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery in Doon. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Lucille Hoekstra was born August 26, 1926 on the family farm near Doon, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Lucy (Buwalda) Gorter. She attended country school east of Doon through the 8th grade. Lucille worked on her parent's farm and as a waitress in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
She married John P. Hoekstra on November 18, 1948 in Doon. They farmed east of Doon and then north of town as Lucille worked with John on the farm and with milking cows. They retired into Doon in 1990. John died on May 31, 2009.
Lucille was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Doon and later the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. She was a member and enjoyed attending ladies Bible studies. She liked to read and was faithful with her visits to her sister. Her children and grandchildren loved her baked cookies.
Lucille is survived by son, Clifford and wife Linda of Sioux Center, Iowa, daughter-in-law, Arlis Hoekstra of Doon, son, Leonard and wife Deb of Rock Valley, and son, Steven and wife Susan of Doon; her siblings, Johanna Gorter of Hull, Iowa, Marge and husband Leonard Nagel of Buena Park, California, and Dorothy and husband Clarence Fransman of Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law, Jeanette Gorter of Doon, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John P.; son, Jerry; siblings, Ann Monen and Lawrence Gorter; great-grandchild, Andrew Juffer; brother-in-law, Gene Monen; and in-laws, Harold and Bertha Hoekstra, Ralph and Marie Brummel, and Clarence and Eileen Anema.
