Ruby Farrand
Mrs. Ruby Farrand passed peacefully in her sleep at home on Thursday, June 23, 2016. Services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 2pm, at First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, SD. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Floyd Farrand, her parents, and her brother, Ken Carstensen. She is survived by her 4 children, Nancy Alton, Jean Lastine (Scott), Doug Farrand (Karelyn), and Sharon Syrdal (Steve); 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Chris Carstensen.
Ruby Nell Farrand (Carstensen) was born on May 24, 1931 to Charles and Rose Carstensen of Newell, Iowa. After high school graduation she worked in a local bank, and then attended Sioux Falls College. There she met and married Floyd Farrand. They enjoyed 62 years of faithful, supportive marriage and raised their family in the Sioux Falls area. Floyd & Ruby were a true team, working at many endeavors together. Ruby was active in women's church groups during her life including American Baptist Women, Ladies Circle, and PEO Chapter BS. She enjoyed knitting for White Cross & Prayer Shawl Group, and participated in many ministries at First Baptist Church. She loved music; and enjoyed the birds and flowers at her home. She always had a cookie in the house. Somewhere. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Women's Ministries.

I have many fond memories of family gatherings through the years with Ruby and Floyd. Those were special times for me.
Ruby had a very special way of listening, a nod of understanding, often a smile , and always a twinkle in her eyes.
Please take care of each other in this very unsettleing time in your lives. GO slow and be gentle . Take time to learn this walk in life.
