William "Bill" Miller

Sioux Falls - William (Bill) Miller passed away January 10, 2021, from Covid-19 related issues.

A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 South Main Avenue, with burial at the Berg Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD. Services will be live-streamed through the Miller website.

He was born December 19, 1941, to William and Sophie (Floren) Miller in Sioux Falls, SD. He graduated from Washington High School in 1960. He joined the Marines and was active duty from 1960-1964. He returned home and worked at John Morrell and Co. He was united in marriage with Catherine Smith Miller in 1967.

Bill was active in many sports. He bowled, played softball, and golfed. He enjoyed fishing with his family and friends. He hunted for many years, but didn't hurt too many pheasants. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in any sport they played.

Bill retired in 2007 after 47 years at John Morrell and Co. He enjoyed his years there and remembered fondly the men he worked with.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Darlene, brothers Leon and Donald.

He is survived by his wife, his children, Dominic (Debbie), Derric, Toni (Lane) and Sophia all of Sioux Falls, SD and a sister Marilee (Joseph) Smith. He is survived by six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

I was one of the 6 young northenders who joined the Marine Corps with Billy on the "Buddy system" on November 16, 1960. After boot camp in San Diego all 6 of us were assigned to separate duty stations. I remember Billy as a good friend and I know he was a great Marine. Semper Fi.
