Bishop Young instructed me -"No matter what be yourself and do it the way of The Lord first and foremost. Not to be in fear of standing along". I do!
I had the pleasure of having him as my radio guest with Congressman John Lewis, who met thru Dorothy I Height-NCNW. Encouraging prayer for the success of Tea and Honey with Dr.Gwen. WERE 1490AM. Thursdays 5-6PM. Bishop became my earthly spiritual leader by design. So funny when I first had a conversation with bishop, I gifted him a purple rice healing pad not knowing that his color was purple. He asked me if I was trying to get on his good side. We laughed. From that time forw ard a spiritual relationship started and I would ever be so grateful to him and Supervisor Young, they appointed me to be the ambassador for AME with Moms Demand Against Gun Violence. As for my granddaughter-Ramya, she was spiritually lifted due to him. That's why on Sunday, September 8, 2019 a wreath will be placed at Arlington Cemetery 1:15PM in honor of The Late Senior Bishop McKinley Young of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Open to all. Praise be to the glory of God for such a steadfast leader who past thru my life.

When I became the pastor of the Wheat Street Baptist Church of Atlanta in 1980, I came to know then Pastor Young. He and I served churches on the same street and enjoyed annual Thanksgiving Day services either at Wheat Street or Big Bethel. We were both members of Concerned Black Clergy. Although our religious denominations were different, I was pleased to support his successful efforts to become a bishop in the AME Church. Bishop McKinley Young was a good pastor, a good bishop, and a good man! May God be with his family and with all who have been affected by his homegoing! I'm sorry that I was unable to attend his memorial service.

Bishop Young was a true man of the cloth. He lived in a real world and made us aware of it. He married my husband and I in 1989. Through our marriage counseling with Bishop Young, we learned a lot and used the tools he gave us during those years. My husband has gone on to be with the Lord as well. My heartfelt condolences to the Young Family.

Wow his list of accomplishments are impressive, but his love for God is clearly seen in what he did for the church, and his love for life is seen in his passion and drive for continual growth and learning. I hope to continue to grow spiritually, mentally, and emotionally every day to become a better person. What a remarkable legacy of service to God,his fellow man,and proper love of self to leave. My thoughts, and prayers are with the family.

Mrs. Young and Family, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I met Bishop Young when I was a student at ITC. He was so supportive of my desire to serve as an Air Force Chaplain. I am where I am today because of his encouragement and mentorship. I'll never forget the day God led him to SC for my annual conference when I needed support. I am forever grateful.

I pray that his life and legacy will inspire all of us.

May God's Holy Spirit grant you peace and comfort.
