Chestene took care of me and my brother when I was growing up in Alpharetta. She traveled with us when we moved to Vermont and my mother asked her to stay with us, but Chestene traveled back to Georgia. I remember her as family. Called her every year during the holidays, but could not find her this year (12/2018), until just now.
I am sincerely grateful for the loving care that you gave us, Chestene. Perhaps someday I will meet your family. You were family to me. I loved you dearly. May you be at peace and be safe. My condolences to your family Stephanie Caffin Davis, PO B 8 Cabot, VT 0567.

I miss my dear friend, Chestene, every day, but am so happy for her now that she's with her family again, and is not
an any pain and is now breathing in the sweet sweet air of Heaven without any effort at all.
I've cherished our friendship, Chestene,
and I saw a bright, twinkling star last night in the western sky, and wondered if it was you telling all of your family and friends that everything's OK now . I bet it was !
With love,
Nan

In 1981, I was appointed to St. James UMC, Alpharetta, GA. My first appointment. The first people I met were John and Chestene Carter. They showed me the church and parsonage. We quickly grew to love each other. It was s joy to know and serve the Manning/Carter Family. I left in 1984, but Chestene and i stayed in contact with each other. I last spoke to her just a few weeks ago. Chestene was so devoted to God, and dedicated to St. James. She taught Sunday School, was President of the UMW, was a choir member, pianist for the church and served the church however and whenever needed. She and John cooked slabs of ribs for our Annual Rib Sale. Baked delicious cakes from scratch for the annual bake sale. She said she had taken me as her brother. I took her as my mother. I will miss the Birthday, Easter, and Christmas cards from her. I will miss her deeply and always have a place for her in my heart.
My sincerest prayer and sympathy to the family.
Respectfully,
