HOLCOMBE, Donald Taylor Donald Taylor Holcombe passed from this life surrounded by family and loved ones on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the age of 73. An Atlanta native, he is survived by two older brothers, Robert and Lamar, his three children, Donald Kevin Holcombe, Karen Holcombe Schroeder and Michael Thomas Holcombe, their spouses, 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 2 nieces and 1 nephew and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents, Verlyn Thomas and Mary Lee (Taylor) Holcombe. Don retired from the United States Air Force and United States Postal Service, but spent most of his time socializing, playing games and having a cup of coffee at one of the fine establishments in Hapeville. Don was a friend to everyone he met, and was lovingly known as "Granddaddy Don" to family. He was best known for his giving, generous spirit and huge heart. His goal in life was to make others happy. He made the most of his time on earth and loved holidays. On Valentine's Day he was delivering boxes of candy and on Mother's Day he was handing flowers to every woman he would see. But Christmas was his favorite - he enjoyed playing Santa Claus for over 50 years, and the cheer and joy he brought to others always made him say, "That made me feel good." Those words were apparent in his eyes and it brought a smile to his face. Don is greatly loved and will be terribly missed. Services will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son Spring Hill Chapel in Atlanta. Please view their website for more details.

Don was a One of a kind, loving man...I knew Don for 26 years as we worked at the Post Office, would go down the street and play pool after work, and everyday, I would make it a point to go to his work area and say hi, shake his hand, and exchange many laughs.....Don is Flying with the angels right now....May God Bless his family, and the world is a less happy place now that he's not here....I pray I get to see him again one day..
