Dorothy Wilkinson Gumz, age 92, of Pine Lake, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018. A service will be held at 10:00 am Sunday, August 12, 2018 in the mausoleum chapel at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker. A native of St. Petersburg, FL, Dorothy was a 1944 graduate of St. Petersburg High School where she played softball and trumpet in the band. She worked the counter at the McCrory Store where she met her future husband, Paul. Dorothy eventually retired as a manager with Krystal with over 30 years of service. Her interests included sewing, cooking, gardening and swimming. She was described as independent, strong willed, dependable, hard working, ethical, generous and loving. She loved baking pound cakes and having Christmas family gatherings. Dorothy was a "daddy's girl" who lost her father when she was 12, never getting over the loss. She raised six kids to be very reliable, independent and loving kids. She helped raise two great nieces for several years. Her big smile and twinkling eyes would light up a room, especially when she saw one of her 6 kids, 12 grandchildren or 30 great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Maude Wilkinson, her sisters, Helen Fleischman and Ida Mae Gicker, and her husband of 65 years, Paul Arthur Gumz, Jr. She is survived by her children, Richard Gumz, Terry Gumz, Reece Gumz, Sherry Garmon, Debra Young and Vint Gumz; grandchildren, Christina Brown, Stephanie Entwistle, Serah Ashley, Wyatt Gumz, Tracey Brown, Tim Garmon, Gene Garmon, Michele Thrailkill, Brian Dodson, Ashleigh McCormack, Christopher Gumz and Kristi Leutele; 30 great grandchildren. I will miss her so much. She had the the most beautiful smile. We would sit for hours watching movies on the hallmark channel when Vince and i would come visit her.
