Robert J. Farley, co-founder, with his wife, Anita Allen-Farley, of the Georgia Ensemble Theatre, died suddenly Thursday, according to his daughter, Laurel Farley Crowe.
Crowe posted on her Facebook page Thursday: "It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of my father, Robert J. Farley (Mr. Bob). His death this morning was sudden and unexpected. He was a beacon of light and positivity in a world that can use a little more of both."
The Alliance Theatre brought Robert Farley to Atlanta, and he left the Alliance in 1992 to create the Georgia Ensemble Theatre (the GET). The company found a home at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center, where it is currently in its 25th season.

A wonderful man and I can say in all truth that the arc of my life is a direct result of him taking a chance on a much younger me long ago. It is easy to see the northern lights when they are in full display...he could detect the slightest wisp of them. It was a blessing in my life to have experienced his insight, wisdom and graceful nature. My heartfelt condolences to his family

In Bob's own unique way, he put his heart into supporting my induction as President of Roswell Rotary by creating a play for everyone to enjoy. It was full of laughter and bonded us in fellowship. It used untrained and rogue actors (a few of us Rotarians!!), guiding us to be the best we could be. It is a treasured memory I will always be thankful for and cherish like so many others who have experienced his ability to touch hearts.

Bob was such a generous soul. The two times I got to work with him as my director were peak experiences for me. He treated everyone with such respect. You felt like a collaborator rather than a bit player. I'm so sad for Anita and his family and for everyone in the Atlanta theatre community.

I met Bob Farley the day I started as the receptionist at the Alaska Repertory Theatre, which just happened to be the Monday of the week that saw the opening of Pump Boys and Dinettes. At the staff meeting the next week, Bob gave me one of the best compliments by saying that he knew I was a perfect fit for the job after that week because I managed to remember names and faces and departments with confidence and a sense of humor during one of the busiest weeks of the year. Thank you, Mr. Bob, for that vote of confidence and for your creative spirit which filled the offices with such wonderful energy.

Bob Farley will always remain a major influence and friend of the theatre in Anchorage Alaska. Of course, the success of the Alaska Rep but also his ongoing generosity to Eccentric Theatre AKA as Cyrano's Theatre Company as recently as last year. Thank you Bob and heartfelt condolences to Anita and the entire theatre community in Atlanta.

I am so saddened to hear of Bob's death. I worked with him briefly at the alliance theatre when I was the director of youth programs. He was one of the kindest men I have ever known. The last time I saw him was at Pete Shinn's memorial service at the alliance. Bob was one of the presenters and it was so memorable. My prayers are with his family.

We treasure the years that Bob shared his artistry, intelligence and humor with his Alaska Repertory Theatre family. The love for Bob by us cannot be contained in mere writing. I knew my recent hours in London with Bob were priceless, but not how priceless. They were a gift from Heaven.
