1918 - 2018

BOLDEN, Dr. Wiley Speights Dr. Wiley Speights Bolden, age 99, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018. He was born December 18, 1918, in Birmingham, AL to Wiley Lee Bolden and Gertrude Speights Bolden. Accompanied by his wife Willie-Creagh in 1948, he moved to Atlanta. He served as Professor of Psychology, and Dean of Faculty and Instruction at Clark College (1948-1967), becoming a mentor and friend to a host of students and colleagues. Nearly all the friendships he created then were maintained and strengthened over the course of his lifetime. Dr. Bolden also served in a variety of research and evaluation posts in Atlanta, GA; New York, NY; Washington, D.C. and Tuskegee, AL. He served as Professor of Educational Foundations, College of Education at Georgia State University (1970-1987). Dr. Bolden established many relationships with students and colleagues at Georgia State. Upon his retirement from Georgia State, he became Professor Emeritus. In February of 1988, Dr. Bolden became Acting President of Savannah State College for a year. He was Acting-Vice President of Academic Affairs at Morris Brown College (1992-1994). Dr. Bolden also served in a variety of church, civic, and community groups. Dr. Bolden is survived by his daughters Millicent Ann Bolden (Eltahir Hassan), Birmingham, AL; Lelia Elissa Bolden, Atlanta, GA; son-in-law Joseph Monette, Las Vegas, NV; sister Madeliene Doris Douglas, Los Angeles, CA; granddaughter Madeliene Ann Bolden, Atlanta, GA; great-granddaughter, Bethany Grace Bolden, Atlanta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
