Mrs. Francisco was a native of Edgefield County but lived in Augusta most of her life. She graduated from Barrett School of Nursing and worked with local physicians as a pediatric nurse. Mrs. Francisco left private practice going to work for University Hospital and retired as a head nurse. She was a longtime member of the Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Francisco was a loving mother and grandmother, known for her special relationships with her grandchildren.
Family members include her son: John L. Francisco, Jr.; grandchildren: John L. Francisco, III, Jackelyn L. Francisco and Christina V. Francisco; sister: Mary Shaw Bernard (Bill); sister-in-law: Juliana Shaw; nephews: Julian Reville and Mark Shaw; and niece: Vicki Shaw. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Hugh Shaw, Sr. and Cornelia Glover Shaw; a son: Frank A. "Tony" Francisco; brothers: Robert C. Shaw, Thomas Hugh Shaw, Jr., Mitchell Shaw and niece: Christy Shaw Norris.
A graveside service will be Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Fred Gunter officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, P.O. Box 932915, Atlanta, GA 31193-2915.

I not only had the privilege of knowing Viola, but worked many years with her at UH, she was one of the sweetest people I have ever known, a great Nurse and loving Mother. She will be missed by so many. My thoughts and prayers are with Jack and her family.

My mom was in nursing school with Viola and when I became a nurse I had the privilege of working with her. She was so kind and caring. Heaven has gained a new angel. Prayers to the family for peace and comfort.

So sorry for your loss. Last time I saw her we talked about the Mothers of Switzer Dr and she was the last mother left. . All we have now are memories.
