Robert Burnett Obituary

Robert "Steve" Burnett, Sr. entered into rest on December 27, 2017, surrounded by the love of his family and friends at his home, after many years of sickness and poor health. He was preceded in death by Fred S. Burnett (father), Betty Ruth Burnett-Buchanan (mother) and Amy Gunter (niece). He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 49 years, Sheila Legrand Burnett, two sons, Robert "Bobby" Steve Burnett, Jr.(Stephanie) and Christopher Adam Burnett, Sr.(Jennifer), sister Beverly Gail Melton, Rock Hill, SC, a brother in law Frank Legrand(Shirley) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren, Connor Stephen Burnett, Allison Marie Burnett, Lauren Grace Burnett and Christopher "Adam" Burnett, Jr.

Steve was born on March 29, 1948 in Aiken, SC. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Augusta Richmond County Water Works Raw Water Pumping Station after nearly 30 years of service. He was a lover of life and his family. He always knew how to bring a smile to everyone's face and could warm the heart of anyone he touched. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone, even if it meant giving them the shirt off of his back. He loved the outdoors whether it was fishing and especially hunting, most importantly with his two sons. With every footstep in the woods a life lesson was passed on to them. He also saw the importance of being able to enjoy all of God's creations, whether it was the mountains, beaches, ponds or enjoying the peacefulness of just being in the woods, and he shared that with whomever he was with at the time. He loved being a great husband, father and grandfather. He especially loved spending time with his four grandchildren even until the very end.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Sons Funeral Home 214 Davis Road, Martinez, Georgia 30907 with Pastor Bobby Smith officiating.
