Both my wife, Marjorie and I were privileged to have had Bill as our Choir Director, at Christ Church. He made singing fun, never losing his snse of humor.

How wonderful to hear from so many whose lives were touched and who were musically inspired by Bill's teaching and the stellar example he set. It is especially poignant that people he taught or directed at St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's many long years ago still acknowledge the impact he had on their lives.
We thank you all for such thoughtful remembrances. -Grace Battey Reed (one of The Daughters)

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

Some of my most cherished memories revolve around Mr. Toole: Gilbert and Sullivan shows, Collegium Musicum, Nine Lessons and Carols, the Spoleto Festival. The list goes on. He was a true gentleman, always kind, encouraging, and generous with his time. He also left quite a legacy. The events he created enriched both the community and the lives of his students. Somewhere in heaven there's a new choir working on its timing and enunciation! And heaven is better for it.

I remember the first time I met Mr. Toole. It was either 1970 or 71 as a student at St H&H. He line up the class and one by one asked us to sing something. After a few second he would say to the student either music or art. For me it music. He open a new world for me that I never considered before. Godspeed Mr. Toole

I met Bill Toole as a student at Juilliard when I played for his students. He was a gentleman and a scholar, was great fun, and generous to a fault. Many times I played programs at his wonderful apartment on 79th Street and he hosted a lovely dinner. I am glad to have called him my friend, and to have had him in my life for so many memorable years. He will be conducting a heavenly choir now, and will be happy that everyone sings on pitch and with the proper rhythm!
