Edy was one in a million. We shared an incredible friendship, meeting nearly 40 years ago in Alaska. A young Southern woman with beauty and charm, Edy had so much to offer and had a tremendous spirit for adventure. For years, along with raising two small children, she would board small Alaskan bush planes and travel alone to the most remote Alaskan villages. Upon arrival at these small dirt or snow laden runways, she would be met by snowmachines or four wheelers and delivered to the village schoolhouse where she would camp out on the floor. She would then meet with native families who were struggling with the fear that their babies or young children miay be facing a future of deafness, Edy was often their first and only contact. She was magical - her warmth transcended the cultural divide. Acceptance is not easy in many of these villages and trust is often almost unattainable. Edy's sincerity came from the heart. Without exception she was revered by these families who she supported often for years to come. This beautiful and brave southern lady, so lucky to call my friend. Always smiling, welcoming, caring. Rest In Peace, you will be greatly missed.
