A true gentleman and extremely talented surgeon, sorry for the loss.
October 30, 2017
I graduated from Nursing School at St Mary's School of Nursing in Huntington, WV, in the spring of 1969. I worked in the O.R. from then until I retired in 2011. and, when I was starting out, i worked frequently with Dr William Irons & Dr George Irons. They were 2 of the best surgeons with whom I ever worked, excellent diagnosticians and they were both wonderful men. They were both very smooth and calm, no matter what the situation. I had such respect for both men and I was honored to have the opportunity to work with them both. Even though I have not seen Dr George Irons for 40+ years, I will still feel his loss. The world has lost an excellent person and a wonderful surgeon.

My favorite story of Dr George was when he was thrown from a horse at the family's farm he said Uncle Bill check my arm as Dr Bill Irons with his stogie tight in his mouth was patting down the hind quarters of the horse responded quiet boy a good quarter horse is hard to find general surgeons are a dime a dozen . Dr George was a fine caring surgeon it was my privilege to have worked with him in Huntington, WV and we all missed him when he went to Mayo.
