I served with Jack (Doug) in the Army Medical Service Corps in 1969 and 1970.

It was an honor.

Everyone was impressed with his organizational skills and his ability to get along with soldiers and civilians of all ranks and grades. I didnt hear Jack speak ill of any individual during times of military stress and he had a wonderful ability to forge quality working relationships those around him.

I thought his greatest skill was his ability to resolve problems. If he didnt know the answer to a problem, he would seek out and find an expert who did know the answer. For example, he was assigned the duty to operate the golf course on base and he (laughingly) told me how he quickly learned about grass seed and fertilizer. He went to the experts.

The last time I saw him was at a forward medical aid station in Quan Loi, Vietnam (near the Cambodian border). I didnt know what he was doing there, or how he found my unit. Except for that Airborne Patch, he was the same old Jack a decent, honorable human being.
God Bless.
My condolences to his family.
