I knew Jim professionally at John Deere, but my fondest memory was when Jim joined John Tibbels and myself on a backpack trip in the Sierras in 1998. The trip started on a somber note, as we hiked through an area destroyed by a wild fire. But the next night we set up camp on a beautiful mountain lake. Jim was full of fun and adventure! We hopped around boulders in a stream that gushed down the mountain. We used black garbage bags to "toboggan" down the snow covered hill side. Jim decided to swim across the cold lake to the other side, just because it was fun. He then laid out on a large flat rock overlooking the lake to soak in the sun. What great memories I have of Jim and the trip we took together.

My sincere condolences to all who knew him. We have lost a gem of a person.

Kind regards,
Bob Paul
