My aunt Joan set a fine example for me as I was growing up in our little Pennsylvania town (Alburtis). We were only 10 years apart in age and she was almost like a big sister to me. I would sometimes go with her to the house of a kind neighbor who offered her living room for quiet study time for her during her college years. She paid me for helping with household chores that she was unable to carry out for her mother due to her busy schedules.
She was close to our family, loved by us all, kind, and dedicated to her studies, her chosen vocation, and to our tiny Presbyterian church. I sometimes accompanied her to deliver the dockets for an upcoming church elders' meeting.
She was my Camp Fire Bluebirds leader and my summer playground instructor. I subsequently also became a summer playground instructor and a kindergarten teacher for a time.
She was an independent woman whom I admired. I was always impressed that out of her large and close family of siblings, she was the only one able (times were different then!) to not only finish high school but to go on to college and eventually earn her PhD. and have so many wonderful opportunities and experiences. She was an inspiration.

Joan's church family at University Presbyterian in Tempe, Arizona, will remember this lovely woman always. She and I were deacons together, and her kindness was so appreciated by all. Joan's life was such an interesting and valuable one, and we celebrate it with many who knew and admired her.

To the Moyer family my heartfelt sympathies go out to the family during this time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring your family and friends comfort. EP

Dr. Moyer was my favorite professor at ASU in the early 80's. She was so knowledgeable about early childhood and such a kind, thoughtful influence on us as students. Rest In Peace, Dr. Moyer.
