Missing you Bill Straus. Your presence was so encredibly important! I loved having conversations with you and hearing your deeply informed ideas and takes on the issues. I appreciated so much how you listened to me as well and made me feel valid and important. You had a huge wide life I'm only so sorry it was shorter than it should have been. May you be at peace. And if by chance you have some special powers now over the world, please.... I needn't have to tell you as I know there are radios in Heaven.... you know exactly what to do! Love me some Billy Boy!!

A Phoenician almost my entire life, I grew up with the Straus, Pearlstein, and Barkan kids. Attended 2nd & 3rd grade with Billie at Grand Ave GS; 4th grade thru 8th at Maryland GS with Wendy; 4 years at Central High with ALL the cousins, Billie, Bill, and Wendy. Bill teased me royally in high school, but when we hit our "adult" years, things changed. One night I ran into him at Gregory's restaurant at 24th & Thomas. He spotted me immediately and greeted me with a big hug, and sincerely apologized to me for any previous 'bad behavior' he may have shown me when we were kids. WOW. I was very touched! Bill did so many great things for so many. Years ago my Dad had a men's clothing store at Park Central Mall (when Leonards' Luggage was in it's hey day), and our family would often stop and visit his parents Mal & Marsha, and Wendy's mom, Aunt Yo. Coko was a very good friend of my brother's. Bill - can't believe you're gone. You
and your entire family will be missed. You all were such a big part of many lives in Phoenix.
Very generous family. Thanks for many great memories.

Bill was my absolute favorite person when I worked for ADL in San Francisco. He was easy to talk to, quick with a joke, and just an all-around great guy and mentor.

Every year at spring forward or fall back, he would send a note to the entire staff nationwide and remind us that Arizona didn't observe daylight savings - usually with some funny subject line or joke somewhere in the message. Seeing his name in my inbox always made me smile - and I know a lot of other folks working for ADL felt the same. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

I met Bill August 1967 both Frosh at the U of Iowa.
I knew from the first poker game I wanted
to hang out with this guy. As I developed a greater sense
of the social injustice in the country; Bill was
already "there" and would become my benchmark.
May 1970 we sat side by side on the steps of the Old Capital
in protest of the War and facing down the Iowa National Guard
dressed in riot gear. As the Guard began to move in I bailed - Straus stayed and
hours later was on the phone to his folks for bail money.
Yes without hesitation after 50 yrs. of knowing
Straus he was indeed a rare gem and the real deal for sure.
