Denise added joy to every encounter just by being there. I knew nothing of her activism but am not surprised. She spoke sensibly and lovingly of almost everyone. Ada Woods

I only knew Denise for a short time...when she moved to Leisure World. But what a lovely person. She was always willing to help out a neighbor and she was so talented as a writer. We miss her so much.

I worked with Denise at the Carroll County Public Library. She was a joy to be around. I can remember us laughing over some toy while working the children's info desk. She was a great lady and she shared many words of wisdom with me....

Dear Maria & Barker Family,
Thank you for posting this obituary celebrating the life of one extraordinary person, Denise. I don't live in MD - in RI, actually - but I believe her lifelong commitment to social justice has made my life better, even hundreds of miles away.
Peace to you all,
Richard
