Not sure what to say?

Studying with Rey at the Peabody in the late 50's to early 60's and at Mrs. Cushman's Junior Conservatory Camp in Lyndonville, Vermont were unforgettable experiences for this then adolescent kid who ultimately became an amateur concert pianist performing Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin and Brahms in various locale in the US, Mexico and Europe.

Thank you very much sir for being my sponsor when I was studying at the UST Conservatory of Music. And thank you for sharing your techniques and memorable and precious time with piano music.

Dear professor Reyes:

It's so hard to believe that I will never see you walk down the corridors of UP ready to give a master class to the students! You were a consummate teacher. I will always admire your willingness and ability to teach absolutely anyone: beginners, talented and untalented, children, adults ... You name it you could teach them! You always had a funny way of expressing things that would capture the essence of the piece for the student and catch their attention too!

I will never forget that you told us the main reason why you kept on studying new repertoire was so that you could teach better! Never for yourself!

In spite of great physical challenges you never failed to come to the Philippines at least twice a year to share your artistry with us. A lesser man would have retired long ago and took better care of himself. You would show up for lessons with black and blue marks from the falls you took. Will miss your ubiquitous water bottle for your coughing fits.

Thanks for being my teacher and an inspiration to become the best teacher for my students!

Reynaldo Reyes was my idol, my mentor and my Yoda. The reason why I am where I am today, he picked me up in the most difficult of times and taught me not only how to be an artist, but also how to be a compassionate human being.

Those who did not know Reynaldo Reyes have missed the incredible life of a man whose kindness, wisdom and passion for music and humanity has inspired generations of students and continue to radiate around the world.

I once asked him if he would ever stop teaching, and he immediately replied: "I will do it until the day I die".

You can now rest, Mr. Reyes.
Though you have ceased to be, your legacy will remain with us forever. Au revoir!

Our deepest sympthies and prayers of strength and comfort for Christina, Telly and the entire family.

Dearest Mr Reyes,
You were an amazing mentor to me- the best mentor anyone could ask for. When I first arrived in MD you literally took me under your wing. How many professors do that for their students? You were always patient and kind, but continued to encourage me to do my very best.
I will miss you dearly. There will never be another Reynaldo Reyes. The world will certainly never be the same without you.
Rest in peace. Thank you for making the world a better place and giving us your beautiful music. The heavens will now be glorified with you and your music.
Rest now. Be with God.

Love always from your biggest fan,

Adios Maestro Reynaldo Reyes. A great pianist, musician, teacher and person. Professor of music at Towson University and the Philippine Women's University.
Requiescat in pace.
It was a very sad news to hear of his passing away. I will always remember the pleasant and interesting conversations we had on music and just about any topic. Also his wonderful performances in Manila back in the 80s when I lived there. Foremost was his tribute concert to his teacher Julio Esteban Anguita in 1988 where he played Isaac Albeniz's monumental work for the piano- Iberia (all 4 books). Lastly, it was truly an honor teaching alongside this great man in the graduate music program of PWU these past 3 years.

Christina and Telly,

It has been my privilege to have known and studied with Reynaldo. Even before I became his student, he always had kind words and constructive comments after I played. I was not unique in that regard. He was a consummate teacher and his love for learning - everything - was contagious. How fortunate we all were to have benefited from his immense talent and huge heart.

I'm sure heaven will welcome him into the choir of angels.

I pray for comfort for your loss.

Through your passion for teaching and piano you have impacted thousands of lives all over the world, I am honored to have been one of your blessed students, and will miss you dearly. Thank you Mr. Reyes, for believing in me as a pianist when I never did myself. That, I will carry with me the rest of my life.

Professor Reyes not only taught young pianists and inspired audiences through his performances - he touched the lives of his students with such genuine care and concern for their total development as humans that has manifested in lifelong gratitude, inspiration, and a legacy that will not be forgotten. He was among the rare breed of teachers who believe that every student is capable of learning anything. He would prove it to each student themselves by helping them learn works that surpassed their greatest expectations, and then laughing as he exclaimed, "See - it's easy!" His genuine love of teaching, exploring music, and overseeing the technical, artistic, and personal growth in his students made him a role model for all who aspire to be a teacher. The heartfelt tributes and beautiful, touching, incredible memories by his friends, colleagues, and students from around the world testify to the role he played in our lives. I feel fortunate to have known him my entire life, to have had him as a teacher from middle school through college, and (over the last decade) as a mentor who continued to guide and inspire me as pianist and teacher. His impact will live on through his students and carry on long into the future.

I wouldn't be where I am today if not for the kindness, generosity and love Prof. Reynaldo Reyes showed. He encouraged me to pursue music as a career and believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. He taught me piano without asking for any compensation. He is my constant inspiration to give back to the Philippine music community that honed my musical skills as a child. Through his kindness and generosity, I was able to come to the United States and study under renowned artists and mentors. Sir Rey, we will continue what you have started. We will continue the legacy. I love you and you will forever be in us and will live through us.

Rey, thank you for the time we shared. You were teacher to my son, friend and colleague to me. Whether at the piano, behind a podium or around the dinner table you were always teaching in more ways then we knew. This Oriole season will not be the same without you. I will forever cherish our baseball conversations.

Reynaldo was one of the pillars of the Towson University Music Department. An absolutely superb teacher, Reynaldo never "went by the book" but adapted his teaching to each and every student. Subsequently, each student would receive unique instruction based upon his or her talent and even their disposition and temperament. And, how his student loved him! Reynaldo was also a wonderful colleague, always cooperative and never complaining. I will sorely miss his good nature and his charming smile.

A noble artist with a servant's heart, Reynaldo Reyes personified the saying, "noblesse oblige." Like Franz Liszt, who took the phrase and made it his own ("genie oblige"), Professor Reyes, whose skills were so superhuman as to bring the word "genius" to mind, was always ready to help his students and colleagues, often at great personal cost. He will be, no, he is greatly missed by all who knew him.
