Dear professor Reyes:

It's so hard to believe that I will never see you walk down the corridors of UP ready to give a master class to the students! You were a consummate teacher. I will always admire your willingness and ability to teach absolutely anyone: beginners, talented and untalented, children, adults ... You name it you could teach them! You always had a funny way of expressing things that would capture the essence of the piece for the student and catch their attention too!

I will never forget that you told us the main reason why you kept on studying new repertoire was so that you could teach better! Never for yourself!

In spite of great physical challenges you never failed to come to the Philippines at least twice a year to share your artistry with us. A lesser man would have retired long ago and took better care of himself. You would show up for lessons with black and blue marks from the falls you took. Will miss your ubiquitous water bottle for your coughing fits.

Thanks for being my teacher and an inspiration to become the best teacher for my students!

Reynaldo Reyes was my idol, my mentor and my Yoda. The reason why I am where I am today, he picked me up in the most difficult of times and taught me not only how to be an artist, but also how to be a compassionate human being.

Those who did not know Reynaldo Reyes have missed the incredible life of a man whose kindness, wisdom and passion for music and humanity has inspired generations of students and continue to radiate around the world.

I once asked him if he would ever stop teaching, and he immediately replied: "I will do it until the day I die".

You can now rest, Mr. Reyes.
Though you have ceased to be, your legacy will remain with us forever. Au revoir!

Our deepest sympthies and prayers of strength and comfort for Christina, Telly and the entire family.
