Goodbye dear partner, mentor and friend.

From the very first day I arrived in Battle Creek to join your practice, you warmly welcomed Mary and I. Not only did you introduce me to all your medical colleagues in the Battle Creek area, you also held us close and included Mary and I in social activities with your dearest friends and family.

Your mentoring was so important to me as a young new doctor. This allowed me to make the transition from a clinician to a practitioner. When you retired, I was fully prepared to continue the practice on my own. Further,I patterned and continued your mentoring to the introduction and inclusion of new practitioner in my practice.

What I cherished the most was the time you and I spent alone with each other not only with medical conferences but vacations too.

Finally I would like to echo the comments by other friends and family members about your quick wit. I had to quickly learn how to deal with your "catch you off guard" wit and tomfoolery by "fighting fire with fire" and always return the volley.

With dearest affection

Clark P Johnson, DPM and Mary Johnson

Dave was the best father-in-law I could have ever hoped for, and a true mentor for me, especially after my own father died. He taught me so many things about so many things. His quick humor and kindness will never be forgotten by the many people whose lives he touched over the years. I will truly miss the yearly Christmas and birthday calls I got from him every year, as well as the jokes. A brilliant and caring person who will be missed by us all.
