Beatrice Saunders Obituary

Beatrice Leigh Saunders, 88, died peacefully on January 10, 2013, near her home in Houston, Texas. Bea was born in Urbana, Illinois, the daughter of Walter A. and Ethyl Blue.

Bea grew up in Ladue, MO and graduated from Clayton High School in St Louis. She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO, (Class of 1944) and worked for TWA in Kansas City and St. Louis during the war.

In 1948, Bea married the love of her life, Mr. Warren Saunders, a Shell Oil Company executive. Bea and Warren started their family in Houston, and added children and friends as they moved to New York City, St. Louis, and the Bay Area, CA. They have lived in the Clear Lake City area in Houston for almost 29 years.

Bea was the consummate wife, mother, and grandmother. A gracious and dignified woman, Bea was always thoughtful towards others.

She chose to make life comfortable and privileged for her family, and proudly called herself a Republican.

Beatrice is survived by her husband of 64 years, Warren Saunders Houston, TX; her sister, Eloise B. Peterson of Westport, CT; daughters: Susan Jewell (Clint) of Leadville, CO and Carol Harbaugh (Greg) of Chicago, IL; sons: Lynnwood D. (Woody) Saunders (Katie) of St. Louis, MO, Warren C. Saunders (Fernalyn) of Melbourne, FL, and Scott D. Saunders (Verena) of St. Louis, MO. Thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren round out the family.

Private gatherings for immediate family members and friends are planned in Houston and St. Louis. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to:

The Disabled American Veterans.

Christmas was not the same this year without Bea and Warren. They always added to a special day with family and friends. What an elegant lady Bea was and we always enjoyed seeing her. We always knew how much she thought of her family and know she will be missed.
