Judith Shannon Obituary

Judith Gwendolyn Williams Shannon, 79, of Houston, Texas passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016. Our sweet bird is now resting with the angels and is no longer suffering from the crippling pain of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Judy was born in Hammond, Indiana on October 26, 1936. She spent the first months after her birth sleeping in dresser drawers, traveling with her parents Janeace and Ken Williams who was a traveling auditor for Sinclair Oil. Houston soon became their permanent home.

Judy attended San Jacinto High School and was a proud member of the Golden Gauchos as a lasso twirler. She would laugh and comment that the skill didn't exactly translate to a long term career. Judy received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

She married James (Dennis) Shannon in 1958 and they settled in the Pearland area where he started a 37 year career with NASA.

Judy is survived by her loving husband and three wonderful children, twins Jennifer LeStourgeon (husband Greg) and Kenneth Shannon (wife Rona) and son John Shannon (wife Yvette). She is also survived by beloved sister Virginia Jones of Hills of Lakeway, Texas.

Judy is survived by nine grandchildren - Byron LeStourgeon, Brendan LeStourgeon, Stephanie Corbridge (husband Justin), Daniel Shannon (wife Katie), Chris Shannon (wife Sierra), Keith Shannon, Scott Shannon, Sarabeth Shannon, and Charlotte Shannon. Six great-grandchildren - Kinsler Corbridge, Braelynn Corbridge, Gwendolyn Corbridge, Wiley Shannon, Tyler Shannon and Adrian Shannon.

Judy is also survived by her special pals Dolly, LouLou, Charlie, and Bert.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Meerasahib and staff at the Deke Slayton Cancer Center for the excellent care Judy received during her continuing struggle with cancer.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546 (281) 992-7200.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. at the Hope Lutheran Church, 1804 S. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 with Rev. Jonathan E. Petering officiating. Interment will follow at the Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.

In lieu of flowers a donation to her favorite charities in Judy's name would be appreciated. These include The Houston Food Bank, 535 Portwall, Houston, Texas 77029 713-547-8623 www.houstonfoodbank.org or The Star of Hope Mission, 6897 Ardmore, Houston, Texas 77054 713-748-0700 www.sohmission.org or the SPCA of Houston, 900 Portway Dr., Houston, TX 77024 713-869-7722 www.houstonspca.org.

Hi lovely lady, still talking about you in group and remembering your tales of your beautiful family. You are still missed daily and now there are 3 of you precious ladies up there. I know you and Phyllis would have loved Rose and I'm sure you're talking up a storm up there with her. We miss you all so much but know we'll meet again one day. Love you Judy xxx

Hey, Cousin! Well, its four years later and I miss you so. Your sense of humor always cheered me up, and I always looked forward to hearing from you. I still regret being unable to come to your funeral. Would have been there if there was any way I could. You were so strong and courageous before you left this earth, and I admire you so. Last time we spoke, you told me how great Denny (Jim) was to you. I wasn't surprised. He's always been a great gentleman and lots of fun, too. You made this world a better place, Judy. I will always love you. God bless!

.....never met you in person but fell in love with you without. Your spirit, humor, kindness, support, awesomeness, class, sass and beauty. Too many wonderful words to describe you and they would all be YOU! We will miss you in the r/a group. I was always happy to see a message from you. You were fun even when dealing with so much..you thought of others. "How are YOU doing today?" you would ask. "I worried about you" you would say. Such a spark in our group. A candle for you Judy because you were the spark for us and such a blessing. We miss you. RIP Dear Judy. Thinking of you Jim and Family...you're in my prayers and my heart. XOXOXOXOXO

I met Judy through our support group where she was an amazing support, source of knowledge & an extremely special friend. There is a huge gap without her kind, informative and funny words after just a few days and we will all miss her greatly. I am privileged to have known her, even though we were thousands of miles apart and never got to meet in person. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones today as you say goodbye to such a special and beautiful lady. RIP Judy my friend & thank you for the memories. Gilly xxx

Denny, Jennifer, Kenneth, John and Shannon families., We are so saddened to hear of Judys passing and are sorry for your loss. Judy was always one of my favorites. I loved her great wit and still remember fondly some of the funny stories she told me when I was a little girl.

My minister once said, "Love leaves behind more than death takes away." I pray it will be so for you.

May God's love surround you and give you peace.

Our love and deepest sympathy,
Your cousins,
