Robert Leroy Dann, 89, of Alvin passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer at home with his family at his side, on September 21, 2014 in Houston. Robert was born on February 28, 1925 in Iowa Colony to parents Ross and Rosamund Mae Dann.
Robert was preceded in death by his first wife Pat, his parents, and brothers: Bill and Johnny Dann and his sister Lillian Dann.
He is survived by his wife Joanne Dann of Houston; children: Robert Dann of Cleburne, Rebecca Conlon of Pearland, Jeanne Sims of Mobile, Alabama, and Tammy Suess of Houston, sisters and brothers: Viola Hamby of Alvin, Jimmy Dann of Jewett, Buddy Dann of Portland, Oregon, Mary Rhoades of Alvin, Rosalie Rose of Petal, Mississippi, and Agnes Parish of Alvin; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.
Robert served in WWII as an Aviation Machinist Mate in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He served in the Solomon, Guadalcanal and Russell Islands. After leaving the Navy he had a career in air force civil service working in Alameda, California, Corpus Christi, Texas and Ellington Field in Houston, Texas, as a flight mechanic and flight engineer, where he retired in 1981. He also served in the U.S. Naval Reserve, retiring in 1976.
He had many hobbies and his garage was his man cave where he worked on all of them.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Oak Park Chapel. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Park Chapel with Rev. Harold Travis officiating. Interment followed at Confederate Cemetery.
