My sincerest (late) condolences. Dr. Wimberly will forever hold a very special place in my heart, as she was my pediatrician in the late 80's and early 90's. I have never encountered a kinder or more genuine Doctor.
I thought about Dr. Wimberly this evening and discovered she had passed. Please know she is still on people's minds and will forever be in all our hearts.

I know it is late, but I wanted to express my condolences and share my experiences.

In March 1979, at 6 months of age, I nearly succumbed to an infection caused by Neisseria Meningiditis. Instead of going into my meningeal layers and causing meningitis, it caused an infection in my blood stream. I had meningococcal septicemia. None of the Dr.'s could quite figure out what was wrong with me. Some thought it was viral encephalitis; others thought it was the pathogen that caused crib death (unknown at that time). When I was life flighted to Herman Memorial, the docs there told my parents I had hours to live. But Dr. Wimberly, who was my pediatrician, acted on a hunch and flooded my body with Penicillin G. And because of her, my mom who never gave up, and God, I am here today.

The interpretations of the neurological scans suggested I suffered profound brain damage. However, my mother and my pediatrician refused to give up on me.

Now, I have not one but two college degrees; one of them in the medical field because I want to pay forward what was done for me.

Thank you Dr. Wimberly! The world lost one of it's best medical pioneers, but the children and humanity in general gained a wonderful guardian angel!!! Love you and Rest in Peace!

She was by my side when our son Drew was born with Down's Syndrome in 1976, and for many years afterward. We loved her dearly.

My condolences go to the family and friends. Losing a loved one can be hard, but our special memories of them help us to cope. May the God of all Comfort, bring you peace during this difficult time. He promises a wonderful hope to see our loved ones again!

I was Winette's flight instructor in the 80's. Our mutual love of flying grew into a very close and personal relationship. She was my doctor until the tender age of 31, at which point she said I needed to get someone "more appropriate" for my age. She was my son's pediatrician until she retired. The world has lost a wonderful human being.

Best pediatrian EVER who caringly treated all 5 of my children with her unfailing and characteristic wit, charm and intelligence. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. Winnette Wimberly -- what a great lady with an ever-present twinkle in her eye! May God bless and comfort her family.

She was my neighbor when our children were little in Oakbrook West. She was a role model for all of us as a pioneer in our age group. She took care of her Mom and she was my youngest Childs doctor. She was loved by all who knew her for her kindness and her way of telling what the right thing to do was. She will be missed forever.

I did not know Dr. Wimberly socially, but as one of our pediatricians and as the mother of one of my students. I used to think how wonderful, she took care of my children while I took care of one of hers. She was an amazing doctor and I am saddened that we have lost her. I pray God stays close to those who knew her the best and you all find calmness and peace in knowing others loved her as well.
