Hannah Dashiell Obituary

Our beloved daughter and big sister, Hannah Dashiell, died 1/5/14. Her death certainly does not define her. She was a kind, thoughtful, smart, creative, funny, energetic, beautiful young woman of just 17 years. She was radiant, she was love, she was light - and still is. Words cannot describe the magnitude of her liveliness. Hannah was a senior at Squalicum High School where she was the Vice President of her class. At Squalicum she was active in cheer, drama, leadership, art, soccer team management, AP and honors courses, and anything else that struck her fancy. Hannah was an avid music fan and liked to discover bands before they became widely popular. She played piano and drums. She was due to graduate with a weighted GPA well over 4.0 and enough AP credits to go into the Urban Honors Program at Portland State University as a Junior next year to study pre-med. She planned to be a doctor and was sure to accomplish that goal. Her sister Maddy found a perfect quote for Hannah "She Turned Her Cant's into Cans and her Dreams into Plans." When Hannah thought of something she wanted to do, it turned into constructive action and planning very quickly. She is most known for her kindness. She would offer a kind word, a smile and an effort to include people at every moment. She worked part time at Barkley Haggens where her infectious smile and upbeat attitude could be regularly appreciated by everyone. We hope that when people think of honoring Hannah's memory that they will be kind and loving to everyone around them. The community's outpouring of love and recognition for Hannah is surely a product of her extreme thoughtfulness, kindness and leadership. We hope that this love lives on and that thoughts of her inspire acts of kindness and bringing dreams into plans. Hannah is survived by her father Dennis, her mother Jeannette, and her sister Maddy... as well as many loving cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, her boyfriend, and other family and friends. While she is loved so very broadly, we particularly morn our little girl and budding woman who was just ours in our little family. We will miss her so much. We will always love and cherish her and we know she is in the giggling expansiveness of heaven. We know Hannah is looking down on all of us and accepting the wonderful love we are all sending to her. She was and is truly an angel. A memorial fund has been established and is accepting donations now in her name at Peoples Bank and through "HannahDashiell.com". Funds will be used to establish an ongoing scholarship fund for Bellingham area high school girls going into medicine. Her family hopes that this will be a robust legacy to keep Hannah's healing, loving spirit alive. The memorial service will be held at Hannah's church, First Congregational Church, in Bellingham, this Saturday 1/11/14 at 1:00pm. The service is open to the community. She will be laid to rest at Bayview Cemetery. Share your memories of Hannah at www.farewelltributes.com . May her love endure in all of us. We love you Hannah.

Dear Dennis and Family,
We are so sad for you. One time when we were visiting we both talked about how good it felt to have raised great kids and not have to worry too much. We liked you from the moment we met, and now that Hannah's life has been made known to us we love her too. She did so much, her roadside memorial is a beautiful testament. We wish for you a bit more healing each day as you struggle with your loss and unbearable pain.
Love, Steve and Andrea Radke

Dear Dashiell Family-
Hannah is not a flower that has been picked but rather one that has been transplanted, and now blooms in richer colors and sweeter shades than those on earth. Your lovely girl meant so much to us. We wish for you solace - your entire community mourns with you.

My prayers are with all of you. If there is anything I can do to ease your pain please call. She was a bright light just like her parents and sister.

My closest MH colleagues and I are sharing in your pain and sorrow despite not ever personally knowing Hannah-- a young woman who anyone could see contributed graciously and tirelessly to our greater community, and who brought joy and comfort to the people who knew her. We recognize that there are no words to adquately express the pain of losing your precious daughter, so loved by so many. Our hearts are with you.

I am lifting you in prayer, as you go through minute by minute of life without your precious child. Hannah sounds like an exceptional person; the way she treated others, the choices she made, her strong ethic, will resonate in those blessed to have known her. May it help to know that you are lifted in prayer and surrounded by those who care.
