Dear Howard's family, friends and fellow marines.
Howard had a direct and powerful gift.
Howard encouraged the good a person can find in themselves and a provided opportunities to
"Pay it forward" into the world.
I met Howard in the late autumn of his days, but there was always "spring" in his heart and mind.
He is missed but always remembered.

He made us earn the title of United States Marine. I saw SSgt Garcia many times while I was attending Radio School at MCRD San Diego. He placed the fear of God in all of us in Platoon 1096. The last time I saw him, was on a CH-53 flying from Da Nang to An Hoa, in May, 1970. A true Marine. Semper Fi, Sir. Rest in Peace.

SSGT Howard Garcia was Senior Drill Instructor of Platoon 1096 from October 1, 1968 until December 9, 1968. He shaped the lives of seventy young men who aspired to be called a United States Marine. He led by example and was in every way a "mans man". We have talked about SSgt Garcia for years. We are all saddened we never got together with him following graduation from boot camp. The memory of SSgt is alive in all of us.

Thank you Staff Sgt. Garcia for shaping my life.

Semper Fidelis, the Marine Corps motto and a philosophy of life.

SSGT Garcia was our Senior Drill Instructor from October 1, 1968 to December 10, 1968. He taught us what we needed to survive in Vietnam and life in general. SSGT Garcia was a real man and a true leader. Our Platoon has reunions every year and we tried hard to find him to attend. We extend our deepest sympathies to SSGT Garcia's family.
Semper Fidelis,
Dan Hefner
