Elder Rader (E.R.) Tolbert, Jr. of Gardendale, Alabama went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2021, at the age of 92. E.R. loved his church and faithfully worshiped and served his Lord through the years at Hillview Baptist Church, Westwood Baptist Church, and most recently at Gardendale First Baptist Church. E.R. served in the Army from 1950 to 1952 in the 17th Armored Cavalry Group 4th Army in Fort Hood, Texas. He worked at ACIPCO for 46 years. He was the manager at the commissary store for 20 of those years. E.R. was also a Master Mason and a member of Leeds Lodge No. 446 of Free and Accepted Masons of the Grand Lodge of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Emma Tolbert; his parents, Elder Rader Tolbert, Sr. and Delilah Tolbert; brothers, John Tolbert and Milton Tolbert; and sisters, Dorothy Cornelius and Sara Burton. He is survived by his sister, Emma Jean Wade; sister-in-law Norma Tolbert; nieces, Cathy Hanvey Green (Ben) and Mary Burton Self (Tommy); nephews, C. Hugh Burton, Jr. (Denise) and Ryan Putman (Kerrie); great-niece, Dana Green McKinney and her daughter, Brooklyn McKinney; great-nephew, B.J. Green (Jessica) and their children Tripp and Viviann; and a many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Due to COVID and health concerns, all services for E.R. will be private, and the family would like everyone to know that they appreciate your thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of the following churches: Hillview Baptist Church, Westwood Baptist Church, or Gardendale First Baptist Church.

E.R. was a dear friend of my family for my whole life. He was a great man of God. I’ll always remember the things he did for us. He now receives his reward in Heaven!

My heart aches for ER and family. He was a dear friend of myself and the Easterwood family! E R was a great example of a true Godly person! I truly looked up to him and loved him dearly.ER will be greatly missed but his family and friends and God in Heaven will love seeing him with open arms!Praying for the families!
