Charles Stephens Obituary

Charles Edward Stephens, Sr., kissed this earthly world goodbye and joined the angelic family and friends awaiting him in heaven on January 10, 2020. Charles was an Air Force Veteran and retired from a lifetime career in telecommunication. Although his career moved him around the southern U.S. he was consistently known as an avid Dr. Pepper drinking, University of Georgia fan. When he wasn't cheering on the Dawgs during the football season, Charles was hanging out in the woods working on his next deer hunting story. Charles had attended Rice Seminary following the service and through the years he left his ministry imprint on the communities he lived in and with the Baptist congregations where he was a member. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, JoAnne Walker Stephens, daughter SaBrina Stephens (Tanya), and son Charles Edward Stephens Jr. He was the proud grandfather of Kayden Stephens-Wiese, Navarre Wiese Baharestan and Madison Stephens. He is also survived by his siblings, Richard Stephens (Kathy); Wanda Sandefur (Bob); David Stephens (Pat); Lillian Durrence (Joe) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Thomas Stephens and Mary Morgan Stephens, his brother, Wayman Stephens, and sister Frances Stephens Parks. In keeping with his humble spirit the immediate family will be having a private reflection. Those wishing to honor his life can make a donation to the Re-imagine Campaign at Saint Matthews Baptist Church, 3515 Grand Ave, Louisville, KY 40207.
