I first met the Chief aboard USS VALDEZ (FF-1096). He did the Indoctrination for all Reservists reporting aboard. Saw him numerous times with the Navy League - the last time at a ship commissioning in 2018. Fair Winds and Following Seas. You've earned your eternal rest Chief.

I first met Al when we were assigned to USS Edson (DD-946) Reserve Crew in 1977. We had little face to face contact as we prepared to meet the ship in Panama and sail to its new home-port, Newport, RI.
Years later we connected at Navy League events. I recall Al's stories of his close relationship with George Wardwell when they were single dads. George's passing was a big loss to Al.
As time passed, Al became very involved in ship visits and award ceremony's, representing our Navy League council. He was infamous for his quality control inspections of the CPO mess and always the last to depart the ship
Al worked in my hometown of Leominster for some time, and became a regular at the Sunday 'Dance 2 Swing' events located in the Elks Lodge.
A few years ago, he came to my Rotary Club o give us a history of 'Ham Radio'. A Ham operator since he was a youngster, he performed equipment demonstrations enthralling the audience. He also had a vast repertoire of stories about his dad's service in the Pacific during WWII.
Dining out was one of Al;s favorite things, and we met occasionally at the Devens Grill. The last time he dad his canoe and we launched it off my beach at Lake Shirley. I boarded my Kayak and we took the grand tour followed by hot dogs and beer on my deck. I missed arranging a meeting last year and was looking forward to one this summer. Sadly it is not to be.
Master Chief Prudehomme was a loyal shipmate and a good friend. I am honored and blessed to have known him and will miss him.

I wish I could have half the passion Al had for doing the right and best things for the ham community. He worked tirelessly for his clubs and the Boxboro Convention. I'm happy that I got to know him over the years, such great Navy stories! I am shocked and saddened by his sudden passing. RIP OM.
