Mr. Aso came to Boston on March 10th, 1967. He passed on March 11, 2006. On March 10, 2020 and March 11, 2020 the tree dedicated to him (a Japanese mountain cherry in Boston's Public Garden) is blooming. There is a haiku underneath by Mr. Aso that says :
Day is over
Yet still cherry petals
Are flying
March 12, 2019
On the back of fish,
Light fragments
Spring Water
- by Kaji Aso

This was the first haiku Mr. Aso wrote when he arrived in Boston on March 10, 1967. He was a painter, poet, singer, tea master, adventurer, marathon runner, philosopher and generous teacher. He passed away in Boston on March 11, 2006. This past Sunday Kaji Aso Studio held a tea ceremony in its gallery for the thirteenth annual remembrance event.
