HANFLING, Jerome D. "Jerry" Passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at his home in Framingham. Jerome had recently celebrated his 65th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife Marcia (Eisenberg) Hanfling. He was the devoted father of Edward Hanfling and Merle Hanfling Kushner and her husband Nicholas Kushner, and the cherished grandfather of Hannah and Jacob Kushner. Son of the late Harry and Shirley (Kleinfield) Hanfling, Jerome was born in Brooklyn, New York, where he grew up, on March 12, 1933. He attended Brooklyn College, City College of New York and then the Polytechnic Institute of New York University where he earned a Master of Electrical Engineering. He had a long career at Raytheon, receiving many author's and inventor's awards in the Equipment and Missile Systems Divisions. Jerome also contributed to the development of the Patriot missile, taught courses, and presented at national conferences. He was proud to be elected to the grade of Fellow by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. In his time, he served his former community of Northport Long Island's homeowner's association and his longtime Temple Beth Am community as Brotherhood treasurer. Jerome was known by childhood playmates, "the Panthers," and classmates through college for his athletic prowess, especially as a pitcher. Not surprisingly, wherever they found themselves in the win and loss columns, the Red Sox had his full attention. He also derived great pleasure from and delighted others with his nautical ability, photography, vegetable gardening, and tenderness towards birds and animals, especially, over the years, our dear pet shelties. Together with his family he creates a legacy of hard work, simple joys, and giving. Due to the current health crisis, funeral services were private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Danforth Museum of Art, c/o Framingham State University, 100 State Street, P.O. Box 9101, Framingham, MA 01701. Condolences to the family. Although we never met, we are family - Shirley was my great aunt (her brother John was my grandfather, and my father Alan was Jerome's first cousin). What a beautiful tribute. May his memory be a blessing.
