McGAULEY, Joseph Harold Age 69 of Lenox, formerly of Swampscott, MA, died Thursday, June 3rd at Tuft's Medical Center in Boston with his loving partner and friends by his side.

Born in Queens, NY, and raised on Long Island, he was a graduate of Uniondale High School, class of 1969.

Joe earned a B.A. degree from SUNY Albany followed by a MM degree from Yale University School of Music.

He was an Associate Concert Master of the Boston Ballet and Opera Orchestras prior to joining the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1978, where he spent 32 years playing his beloved Venetian violin, made in 1732 by Sanctus Seraphin, until his retirement in 2010.

He was a faculty member of Boston Conservatory, N.E. Conservatory Prep Division, the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, as well as the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.

Joseph is survived by his life time partner, Robby J. Wallace of Lenox; a sister, Loretta Esposito (Joseph); and a brother, Daniel F. McGauley (Margaret) all of Nesconset, NY.

He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas J. McGauley; and his mother, Alice M. McGauley.

The funeral for Mr. Joseph H. McGauley will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 10:30am at Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, LENOX, MA 01240. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. There will be No Calling Hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Tufts Medical Center in recognition of the exceptional care Joe received there and/or The Petsmart Charities at, both in care of the funeral home.

Rob so sorry to hear about Joe. He was a great guy. He was caring and humorous. We shared a friendship for over 30 years. Thank you for all you did for him, I know he really cared for you.
