GILLIGAN, Robert M. Robert "Bob" Michael Gilligan, 67, passed away on Tuesday, May 4th, 2021 after a brief and determined battle with cancer. Most recently living between Medford and Manomet, Massachusetts, Bob honored his New York roots with a lasting affinity for the Yankees. Bob is survived by his wife and soulmate of 40 years, Sandra Shaheen, their children, Nora, Nicholas, and Timothy Gilligan (son-in-law Ross Norton), and his brothers, John (wife Marion), Richard, and William Gilligan, as well as numerous and much loved nieces and nephews. Bob's humor and joyful presence will be missed on the golf course and hockey rink, in the courtroom, on committees for the arts, education, and social justice where he served, and most of all, by his loving family. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, planful mind, and deep love and respect for others. Bob was a proud graduate of Fairfield Prep, Michigan State University, and Boston University Law School. He spent much of his career moonlighting as a youth sports coach and CCD teacher for his children, avid reader and sports fan, traveler, and outstanding if irreverent friend and advisor. Bob had a knack for building community wherever he went, and the outpouring of shared stories from the lives he's touched will keep him alive in our hearts and memories. A Mass will be held at St. Raphael's Church in Medford, MA on Friday, May 14th at 11 am. A celebration of his remarkable life will be planned for later in the year - Bob truly lived life "his way," and we will honor that appropriately. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Doctors Without Borders, St. Francis House in Boston, or a charity of your choice. Bob was the legendary comedian and organizer of Sunday morning hockey at the Daly Rink. It was hard to know if people showed up for his jokes or hockey, but both were always very entertaining. He was a larger than life personality who left us much too soon. He will be greatly missed.
