ILA BEARD Minnie "Ila" Beard, of Grand Junction, Colo., and formerly a 72-year-resident of Boulder City, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Hope West Hospice Care Center, at the age of 99. Ila was born September 17, 1917, in Wetumpka, Alabama, to Doc and Parthena Foshee, one of six children. Ila lived in Wetumpka until she met the love of her life, Hobson "Bob" Beard. Ila met her future husband at her brother's garage, where Bob worked as an auto mechanic. Bob had stated to a friend, "I'm going to marry her someday." Ila asked her brother to invite Bob to dinner one evening, they began dating and were together until Bob's passing in 1990. Bob and Ila were married January 25, 1935, at Ila's home in Wetumpka. Soon after they moved to Boulder City, where Bob was hired as a construction worker on Boulder Dam (Hoover). They were married for 55 years. They had one son Ronnie, born August 4, 1947, in Boulder City. Ila was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved her family very much. Ila was an amazing cook and seamstress, making many of her granddaughters' clothes when they were children. She made the best pomegranate jelly in Boulder City. During pomegranate season, you could catch Ila banging on her kitchen window as kids came down the alley picking the non-ripe pomegranates off her tree. She was also known to run a few of them off, chasing them out of her yard. Ronnie remembers hating to see Ila coming towards him with an Elm switch in her hand from the tree in the backyard. He was very happy when they finally cut it down. Ila loved working in her flower garden, as well as enjoyed reading and working word puzzles. She also knitted and crocheted. Ila enjoyed visiting Hoover Dam, whenever she was able. Bob and Ila enjoyed traveling together. Visiting many destinations in their life together. Ila worked at LaVeras' dress store for over 20 years as a sales person. She enjoyed visiting with and helping the customers. After retiring, Ila volunteered for many years at St. Jude Ranch in the mailroom. She enjoyed participating in exercise classes at the Recreation Center. Ila taught Sunday School at the Grace Community Church and helped with the Country Store. She knitted hats for the homeless. Ila was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents; and siblings. Ila will be sadly missed by her son, Ron, and his wife, Patty, of of Vanzant, Missouri; three granddaughters, Kimberlee Welsh (Richard) of Willows, California, Kellee Echave (Rob) of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Kristee Jordan of Gwynn Oak, Maryland; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Viewing will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Ila will be laid to rest next to her beloved Bob at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Boulder City Municipal Cemetery, 501 Adams Blvd., Boulder City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Fountains of Hilltop, 1331 Hermosa Ave., Grand Junction, Colorado, or Hope West Care Center, 3090 N. 12th St., Grand Junction, Colorado.

What a GRAND southern lady Ila was. She was always straight forward with the way she talked to you but also very loving in all she did. She and Virginia Riley were the two aces in our chatty hatters group kniting for the homeless and those in need of warm hats. Ila had true grit and never lost it the older she was. We miss her and was dissapointed she had to leave boulder city but knew she was in great hands with her family. A true southern lady who now is with the Lord and watching over us all. Prayers for her family and friends and all that she met in her journey of life. God Bless Diane Hernandez
