MARY McCLEERY Obituary

MARY LOU McCLEERY Mary Lou McCleery (Mick) passed away on March 23 in her home in Boulder City. Her family was at her bedside. Mick was born on July 12, 1940 in Sioux City, Iowa to Roy and Marcella Vanderham. She spent her childhood in Sioux City. While still in her teenage years, she met and married Charles McCleery (Mac) and shortly thereafter followed him to his first duty assignment in the United States Marine Corps. Mick quickly became the primary parent of four handsome boys as Mac was away from the family the majority of his 20-year career in the Marine Corps. Upon retiring, they settled in Eugene, Ore. and later moved to Vancouver, Wash. Mick was very talented and enjoyed numerous crafts, to include crocheting, porcelain doll making, Ukrainian egg making, and cross-stitching. Her favorite pastime was cross-stitching. She completed gorgeous cross-stitches, framed them, and then presented them as gifts to family and friends. Many of her beautiful creations are displayed on the walls in her room for us to remember her by. After Mac's retirement from his second career in 1994, they sold their home and began traveling in their motorhome. They traveled for five years and decided to settle down again, but in a warmer climate. They built a new home in North Las Vegas, near family. Mac's health went downhill and they were faced with numerous doctor visits and limited mobility due to his health. Mick was his sole caregiver until his death in October 2007. Mick and Mac were preceded in death by their son, Tim, in May 1980. Mick moved to Boulder City in October 2014 to live with her oldest son, Tony, and his wife, in their newly built home. Mick is survived by and deeply missed by her children, Tony, Terry, and Brian, their wives, eight grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. The family is planning a private memorial service in the coming month.
