FRANCES TOWLE BOARDMAN - CORNWALL - Frances Towle Boardman, age 102, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, in Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury. Mrs. Boardman was born in Cornwall on Nov. 14, 1911, the daughter of Loyal and Anna (Ringey) Towle. She grew up in Cornwall where she received her early education, graduating from Middlebury High School. She was well known for her many years as a cook at the Cornwall Elementary School. On June 9, 1946, she married Charles Henry Boardman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Middlebury. They were lifelong residents of Cornwall. Mr. Boardman predeceased her on Dec. 31, 2012. Surviving is her daughter, Mary Jane Broughton and husband, Michael, of Bristol; two grandsons, Benjamin Broughton of Middlebury, and Loyal Broughton of Denver, Colo.; sister, Zita Riley of Middlebury; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, William Towle; and three sisters, Rena Willson, Louise Wilson, and Winifred Wolcott. Frances will long be remembered for her love of family and friends. Her kitchen door was always open and guests would have ample choices of homemade treats to enjoy, the most popular being her donuts. She was an active supporter of the Cornwall Fire Department, and other local clubs and organizations. In thanks for her contributions to her town, the Town of Cornwall honored her on her 100th birthday, proclaiming the day as, "Frances Towle Boardman Day." She was also a passionate Red Sox fan, rarely missing a televised game. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at HPHRC for their warmth, care and love. Also, Dr. Fifield, Dr. Cope, Dr. Rouse, the staff from Addison County Home Health & Hospice, her home caregivers, our family and neighbors who helped her stay close to her kitchen and enjoy each day. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Middlebury. The Rev. William Beaudin, pastor, will be the celebrant. The graveside committal service and burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary's Cemetery. Following the ceremony, the family will receive friends at Middlebury American Legion Post #27, for a time of fellowship and remembrance. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory, to Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, 30 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753; or Cornwall Volunteer Fire Department, 1952 Rte. 30, Cornwall, VT 05753; or Addison Respite Care Home, A.R.C.H., PO Box 953, Middlebury, VT 05753.

My sincere sympathy and deepest condolences to the family of Ms Frances Boardman What a wonderful long life your loved one had. Psalms 90:10 says: that the days of our years are 70 yrs. Because of special mightiness she lived to 90 years old. Special mightiness indeed. May the memories of the wonderful times you shared bring a smile and joy in your hearts.

Although I partook rarely of the "best lunches in the Country", Frances' face was always one we Cattons delighted in seeing each day. It made growing up in Cornwall something we treasure. God Bless.

I have many pleasant memories of visiting your house as we were growing up. One memory is of your mother serving us chicken noodle soup late one night after babysitting. I was sorry to learn of her passing.

Mary Jane and Mike, I was so sorry to hear of your mom's passing, but what a wonderful long life she had. My best memory of your mom was going to your place one day after school and she had a warm chocolate meringue pie ready for us. I don't think I ever tasted anything as good before or since. Hugs to you both and my sympathy to the family.
