Don and I were classmates at Brookfield and we both attended the University of Mo. and graduated in 1959. I think it was the year 1973 that my wife three kids and I were camping on a beach in Corpus Christi and I called Don. He came out to where we were camping and we visited. I ask him where could we go to eat some good shrimp. He told us to go to the Kings Inn. Boy he was right. To this day I have never had better. He told me about what he did for a living and said that his ship had not came in but he could see it on the horizonI. In 2015 my wife and I spent a couple of nights in Corpus Christi and I tried to call Don to thank him for sending us to the Kings Inn but I either dialed wrong or had the wrong number as I got a message that said the number was not a working number. I wish I could have contacted him. It appears that his ship finally came in. Rest in Peace Don. Paul Hazelrigg

Over the past 60-odd years since high school, I've often recounted the good times I had with Donald. I lived about four houses down the street from him and last week, while visiting my son, I was relating one such time and he searched the internet and found your tribute to Donald.
I remember us walking home after a movie one night and laughing that he said once he had his driver's license, he would never walk again. Of his many hours practicing that song he played at the Missouri State Fair piano competition. He said that the previous year he took a friend to the competition and while he was playing for the judges he could hear his friend calling his name outside the building. Don't remember how the judges scored his playing.
Mostly, I remember our trip to California after graduating high school. We drove my 4-door Frazer convertible that had a Mercury high-speed transmission (Low gear was really 2nd gear, 2nd was really 3rd and 4th gear wouldn't pull the car on an incline. In Yosemite, we started up to the big tree. A car ahead stalled out and we had to stop until a ranger got them going again. My Frazer could not move due to the incline so Donald got out and pushed. Once the car started moving I had to keep it going and as I turned thru a hairpin corner, I saw Donald ahead scrambling up the embankment on all fours from the road below and leaped into the back seat as I passed by. He got even with me in Denver. I was in the back seat in my shorts, sun bathing as he drove up alongside a bus on Colfax St. I looked up and most of the people on our side of the bus were looking down at me and laughing. Donald was waving at them and drove next to that bus for what seemed like miles---when the bus stopped, he stopped, when the bus moved he moved. I can still remember his laugh.
Yes, I have many good memories of that boy whose parents owned a ranch (his words) in Brookfield Missouri. Kathryn and I pray this finds you and your family well, Max. God bless each of you.

Max and kids....I
l just found out about Don's passing. He was such a good person and I know he has found his place in heaven. I'm sorry I haven't kept up with your family more. I remember good times with him when we were kids. He was always my favorite cousin. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Love Nancy
