George R. Garcia
Corpus Christi - George Rodriguez Garcia, 80, best friend, high school sweetheart, and loving husband of 60 years of Sarita Ibanez Garcia, succumbed to the COVID virus on Thursday evening, January 7, 2021. He was born on March 22, 1940 to his parents, Ernesto Garcia Sr. and Gregoria Rodriguez in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was raised in Robstown, Texas where he attended school and graduated with the Cotton Picker class of 1959. While in high school he was an outstanding track and football star. George continued his love of sports, playing minor league baseball and football. He enjoyed golf for over 40 years scoring holes in one at the Lozano Golf Center and at Sinton Municipal Golf course. George was a certified industrial mechanic and he worked for American Smelting & Refining retiring after 32 years of service. George volunteered as coach for the Robstown Football and Baseball Little Leagues. A talented musician, George played tenor saxophone for many local and area Tejano Bands.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Olga Benavidez.
To cherish his memories, he leaves his beloved wife, Sarita; three children, Luanna (Julian) Ortiz, Lianna Garcia of San Antonio, George (Cynthia) Garcia; four grandchildren, Jake Andre Garcia, Joshua James and Julianna Lu Garcia, Joaquin Cristian Flores; his siblings, Ernesto (Soledad) Garcia of Houston, Rachel Molina of Sandia, Irma Guzman of Illinois and Carlos Garcia (Betty) of Corpus Christi. He will also be missed by numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 10am with the rosary to be recited at 11am at Ramon Funeral Home Chapel in Robstown, Texas. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1pm that same day at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Robstown, Texas. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Robstown, Texas.
