Mr. McCraw hired me in 1990 as his assistant superintendent. We worked together for two years when he paved the way for me to take over as superintendent when he retired. My family and I had many good years in Mathis ISD before I moved to take over the superintendent's job in Sweeny. Mr. McCraw was a great mentor. He was a math genius. I learned so much from him about how to estimate, calculate and project. His sense of humor was second to none. Learning from him to use that sense of humor helped me through some tough days in my jobs as superintendent. Sometimes we had to laugh to keep from crying.
Mrs. McCraw was instrumental in seeing that our daughter, Dawn, had a great Senior year. When we moved to Mathis, she was due to be a Senior and Drill Team Head at Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur. She had a great year in Mathis and made many life long friends.
A great boss, friend and mentor. The world will miss him.
Dr. and Mrs. Jim Weeks
