Aunt Sue was an intimidatingly accomplished woman. A doctor, author, mother of five. An amazingly accomplished homemaker with an impressive array of sewing, cooking and entertaining skills. She was always kind and thoughtful and was greatly loved by her large family.
Sue was unfailingly gracious and welcoming to me during my teenage years when we became close neighbours and our families spent a lot of time together. I recall her hosting many wonderful dinner parties featuring frank family discussions of all sorts of taboo subjects that she would lead. No topic was off limits, no question would be left unanswered.
Her wide knowledge of medical and personal matters was an incredible resource for Mum and me. We called on her for minor health complaints, and she was never too busy to dash off a quick emergency prescription, or give some good advice. We even rushed over one night with our mortally wounded cat. She very kindly felt for a pulse and told us nothing could be done.
She comforted Mum and me in our darkest hours when my brother died. I missed her very much when she married again and moved away with Rowan, but we were all in awe of her intrepid nature as she left for that great adventure.
I'm very saddened by her absence from our lives, but take some comfort knowing she is no longer suffering. She will be greatly missed.
