George Harrison Obituary



George Frederick Harrison Sr., 75, of Sykesville, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at Long View Nursing Home in Manchester.

Born Sept. 27, 1938, in Sykesville, he was the son of Carlyn C. Harrison, of Sykesville, and the late Milroy Wildren Harrison. He was the husband of Edna Marie Anderson Harrison, his wife of 55 years.

He retired in 1983 from Westinghouse. He was a member of many hunting and fishing clubs. He enjoyed outdoor activities, spending time with his grandchildren, taking trips with his wife and spending time with his cat, Sylvester.

Surviving, in addition to his mother and wife, are sons George F. Harrison Jr., of Sykesville, and Charles F. Harrison, of Hanover, Pa.; daughters and sons-in-law Juanita L. and Stanley Shifflett, and Linda S. and Lewis Wilson, all of Hanover, Pa.; brothers and sisters-in-law William C. and Pat Harrison, of Sykesville, and Carroll L. and Ina Harrison, of Glen Rock, Pa.; grandchildren Daniel Shifflett and wife Kelly, of New Oxford, Pa., Stephen Shifflett, of McSherrystown, Pa., Michael Shifflett, George Gordon III and wife Sara, Carlynne Tasto and husband Kevin, and Matthew Gordon and fiancee Abby, all of Hanover, Pa., and Christopher Heath, of Marion, Va.; and great-grandchildren Siera, McKenzie, Diesel, Logan, Landon, Carter, Connor, Lily, Savannah and Xander.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ken Martz officiating. Interment will be in Springfield Cemetery in Sykesville.

I am so sorry for your loss. He was always smiling all the years we grew up next to him. He was always happy to say hello and to stop and see the kids when I visited my moms . He will be missed . Edna hang in there. My prayers and thoughts are with your family.
