Theodore Mark "Ted" Provenza, 82, of Parkville, formerly of Baltimore, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Oak Crest Village in Parkville, where he was an independent resident.
Born May 27, 1931, in Baltimore, he was the only son of the late Joseph and Leona Corprew Provenza. He was the former husband of Jacqueline Voris Bowen Provenza, who died in 2009.
He was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and was a Korean War veteran serving in the Army Signal Corps from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1954.
He was an electrical engineer supplying test equipment for the Apollo Space Program through NASA. He was also an insurance agent with Prudential Insurance and operated Walsh Insurance Agency in Westminster.
While he was a resident at Oak Crest Village, he was known as "The Mayor" and enjoyed repairing time pieces for relatives, friends and residents, calling his repair service, "It's About Time." Prior to moving to Oak Crest, he resided in Glen Arm.
He was a ham radio operator, receiving his technician license at age 12, operating with the call sign W3OWN. He was a member of Baltimore Radio Amateur Television Society and Baltimore Amateur Radio Club.
An accomplished musician, he played the guitar, ukelele, organ, piano, mandolin, banjo, accordion and harmonica. He was a member of the Maryland Free State Theatre Organ Society
He was a master mason at Pickering Lodge No. 146, A.F. & A.M., where he received his 50-year membership pin. He was also a Shriner, being a member of the Amateur Radio Club and the Clowns Unit.
He was a former Boy Scout, an adult Scout leader and assistant Scoutmaster for his three sons, also scouts in Troop 423 in Towson.
Surviving are sons and spouses Clinton Eugene Provenza and Sherri, of Millersville, Theodore John Provenza and Margaretann, of Finksburg, and Bradley Voris Provenza and Stephanie, of Joppa; and grandchildren Christina Gail, Nicole Renee; Danielle Lynn, Madina Emily; Anthony Reese and Joseph Voris Provenza.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of memorial service, 11 a.m. Nov. 9 at Oak Crest Village Chapel, 8820 Walther Blvd., Parkville. Following the service, a Masonic Lodge of Sorrow service will be held.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Church of the Open Door, 550 Baltimore Blvd., Westminster.
He donated his remains to further the education of medical students for the betterment of science.

Family and Friends of Ted Provenza ;W3OWN for the many years of Ham Radio Friendship that we once shared . Having been off the air nearly 15 years , I am about ready to retire and went through many old logs where we shared years of friendships .I'm quite saddened to see that Ted has become a"Silent Key" but know oh so well that he has gone home to our Savior. I knew Mr Provenza for many years, and ultimately served as his cardiologist. He was a wonderful man, whose keen intelligence and quick wit always enlivened our meetings. I will miss him, and I carry warm memories of our times together.
